Veritree:
Info: One of our newer partners, we started working with Veritree in 2023 to give us and our customers a better picture and more transparency on our tree planting operations. To date we have planted over 1 million trees, and thanks to our dedicated partners we have made sure that these trees have been planted in effective locations around the globe.
Oregon Restoration: In 2020, the Labor Day windstorms resulted in five simultaneous megafires in Oregon and 12 other smaller scale fires. The series of fires destroyed the bulk of Oregon’s timber harvest and future timber supply. Local communities were displaced and critical habitats for wildlife were lost.
Restorative planting is now being conducted by the Oregon Forestry Department, and will be restoring the burned forest land throughout Oregon. A diverse range of species will be planted, including seeds that are adapted to withstand the changing climate. The trees being planted are carefully selected to represent the local ecosystem and assist with natural regeneration. They include Douglas-fir, Noble-fir and Western Red Cedar. The goal of this project is to restore the wildlife habitat for species such as Deer, Elk, Cougar, Bear, Trout and Spotted Owl.
EOCA:
Info: As a British outdoor business we found it important to partner with the European Outdoor Conservation Association (EOCA), to not only support their initiatives but also help us become a greener and more sustainable company ourselves. Partnered since 2018, we help EOCA to support and fund grassroots conservation, protection and regeneration projects around the world, protecting the wild places and wildlife we all care so much about.
Canopy Watch - Safeguarding White-footed Tamarin in Colombia: The White-footed Tamarin monkey is a threatened species endemic to forests of west-central Colombia. Despite its importance as a seed disperser, contributing to forest regeneration, it is threatened by habitat loss, degradation and exploitation for the pet trade.
EOCA are supporting Canopy Watch International, who seek to conserve and restore forest habitat for tamarin monkeys in the Middle Magdalena Valley, Colombia, located within the Tumbes-Chocó-Magdalena biodiversity hotspot. This region retains <25% of original forest cover, occurring in fragments isolated by pastures.
This project will restore 25 ha of pasture by planting 15000 native seedlings using Applied Nucleation, and plant 500 seedlings particularly beneficial to tamarin monkeys in the forested area. The project will monitor tamarin populations using 10 canopy camera traps, supporting long term management plan development.
1% For The Planet:
Info: Started by Patagonia founder and legendary outdoorsman Yvon Chouinard, and with a huge global reach including companies from every continent, 1% for the Planet is an global movement encouraging companies to give a portion of their revenue each year to support environmental solutions. We have been a member company since 2017, where 1% have helped us with our giving strategies, certifying donations and amplify the impact of our eco-work.
An ever-growing group of partners: While Veritree and EOCA have specific projects they are undertaking, the very nature of 1% for the Planet means the scope of what they are hoping to achieve can’t be measured by individual stories. With over 5200 business members and supporting more than 6700 approved environmental partners, you could say there’s over 11,900 positive stories of action around the globe being taken right now. And the even better news? This number is growing every day, as 1% for the Planet becomes better known more businesses join, and more environmental partners are approved.
Furthermore, it’s not just good for the planet, but good for the employees of member businesses too. A recent Fidelity Charitable study, 86% of employees expressed the importance of their values aligning with the company they work for, and Booth & Partners who have been certified for nearly five years, have seen a 17% increase in employee retention since they began their membership journey in 2019.
