Over the past decade, we have proudly planted 20 trees for each Tent and Hammock sold– with a whopping 1,062,259 planted to date in partnership with Veritree, WeForest, and Eden Reforestation projects. We have planted in Zambia, Madagascar, India, and Oregon – supporting teams in the field to plant and nurture sapling species that are suited to each location. Throughout our Black Friday Sale this year we will continue our tree planting work, so you can be confident that your purchase is helping support Forest environments around the globe.

But we’re not stopping there. This year, we’ve decided to go one step further; in addition to planting new trees – we also want to protect and preserve existing landscapes so that they too can thrive. That’s where our new partnership with Sumatran Orangutan Society (SOS) comes in.

For each Tree Tent or Hammock sold this month during the Tentsile Black Friday Sale, we pledge to donate $2 to SOS. These funds will be distributed to their frontline partners, TaHuKah, who work closely with the community of Sibagindar village, West Toba, to manage and rewild a 600 hectare forest beside their village. You can read all about the project we’ll be supporting in West Toba, here.

SOS and their frontline partners empower local communities to become guardians of their forests through collaborative conservation programmes. They support the development of locally-driven solutions that address the unique needs and aspirations of each forest-edge community. This community-centred approach ensures that orangutan conservation can benefit both people and wildlife for generations to come. Together with their partners, SOS have rewilded more than 2,000 hectares of forest over the last decade, with the goal of regenerating of 10,000 hectares of orangutan habitat.

At the recent Earth Talks environmental conference in Vienna, speaker Lina Burnelius made a profound point: ‘Planting a new tree is not the same is protecting a 400 year old Forest’. We couldn’t agree more. There is huge value in both approaches, but to protect and rewild an existing forest has significantly greater impact in a shorter space of time – which is why we are so excited to support Sumatran Orangutan Society in their incredible work.
