Every April the National Park Service joins with the National Park Foundation to give people the opportunity to discover and explore the incredible and abundant wild spaces found all over the USA. From April 20 - April 28 2024, this annual celebration will shine a spotlight on the vast and varied landscapes of National Parks - from the unique geological features of Yellowstone, Zion and the Grand Canyon National Parks, to the breathtaking majesty of the Redwoods and so much more.
"Join us for National Park Week, a nine-day celebration of everything "parks". Not just about more than 400 national parks nationwide of different shapes, sizes, and types. Also discover what the National Park Service does through our programs and partners to preserve natural and cultural heritage and provide recreational opportunities in places across the country." - NPS.gov
These public lands are cherished as some of the most beautiful places in the World, and no matter what State you're in, you're never far from a National Park. Will you Hike, Bike, Climb, Raft, SUP (or indeed, camp in a Tree Tent!) throughout the National Parks this year?
What is National Parks week, and where did it all begin?
In 1916, the Organic Act created the National Park Service in order "to conserve the scenery and the natural and historical objects and wildlife therein...". Fast forward to 1991 - the very first National Parks Week was designated to coincide with their 75th Anniversary. Since then, every April Americans are invited to explore these unspoilt wild spaces, discover their history and culture, and learn first hand about Nature itself.
On the first day of National Park week this year - Friday April 20th 2024 - all national park entrance fees will be waived for visitors, which means there really is no barrier to adventuring among some of the most iconic natural landmarks on the planet.
