Putting the environment first - what sustainable clothing means to us
Did you know that 60% of clothes are made from or with plastic and that a dump truck of textiles waste goes to landfill or incineration every second? When it comes to plastic waste, we are the problem and we need to be become part of the solution.
We work with Teemill as our clothing supplier and we chose them because they are a sustainable, print-on-demand organisation who built the first circular economy for fashion.
Our clothing range is:
- Made from GOTS certified organic materials – that means no plastic is used.
- Printed using water-based inks.
- Powered by renewable energy.
- Designed to come back to be remanufactured when they're worn out so new products can be made from the material recovered.
Did you know that 40% of clothing produced is never worn? That’s because clothes are mass produced speculatively, producing massive amounts of waste.
Our clothing range is:
- Printed in real time so we only make what people need when they need it.
- Dropshipped directly to your door saving transport costs and producing lower emissions.
- Packed in plastic free packaging instead using sustainable, eco-friendly packaging made from plants, not plastic.
Take a look at how our clothing is made
Water clean enough to drink
Did you know wastewater from dyehouse effluent is a major source of pollution in the clothing industry?
When you buy from our clothing range, they are dyed, and the water is then recovered, cleaned and recirculated. After settling and skimming, the water is filtered using reverse osmosis and distillation. This is basically sucking up water through really fine sand over and over, then boiling it.
Salt is added back in so that the dye adheres and all the mulchy stuff left over is dried out and used for road markings.
About 95% of the water is recirculated and recovered.
And, at the end of the process, the water coming out of the filters and going back round to be reused again is crystal clear, literally clean enough to drink. Once it has been cleaned, it is then used at the input for the next batch.
Plastic-free Packaging
Did you know by 2050 there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish?
Instead of plastic packaging, your clothing will be sent in a rip and splash-proof mailer bag made out of paper and big orders come in cardboard boxes, with paper-based tape.
The packing is made from plants not plastic and you can reuse the packaging or colour it in!
So there you have it, a 100% sustainable clothing range which puts the environment first.
This weekend for every item you purchase, 1kg of ocean bound plastic will be recovered and recycled – that’s about 50 plastic bottles you’ll be saving from entering our Oceans. Hurry, offer ends Sunday 24th July 2022 – do your bit for Plastic Free July and help become part of solution for tackling plastic waste.
