Black Friday is often synonymous with flashy sales and frenzied shopping, but behind lies a less glamorous truth: its impact on the environment. Every year, this unofficial holiday fuels overconsumption, with products being mass-produced, shipped globally, and sometimes discarded just as quickly. This cycle contributes to excessive waste, resource depletion, and carbon emissions—all at a time when the planet desperately needs us to tread more lightly. At Tentsile, we understand the need for balance. Black Friday offers a chance to make outdoor adventure more accessible, but we believe it shouldn’t come at the expense of the environment. That’s why we’re rethinking how sales can do more than just empty warehouses—they can also leave the world a little better than we found it.
1. Quality Over Quantity
Our tree tents and hammocks are built to last. By investing in durable, well-made gear you’re reducing the need to replace items year after year. Fewer products discarded means less waste in landfills (and more bang for your buck!)
2. Tree Planting, every day
For every tree tent or hammock sold, we plant 20 trees. This initiative has been at the heart of our mission from the start, helping to combat deforestation and protect ecosystems worldwide.
3. Supporting the Sumatran Orangutan Society (Orangutan SOS)
This Black Friday, we went a step further. For every tree tent and hammock sold throughout November, we've donated £2 to Orangutan SOS to support their incredible conservation efforts in Sumatra. The funds raised from our Black Friday initiative are specifically going towards SOS’s canopy bridge project. In Sumatra, sprawling roads and other human-made barriers cut through once-continuous rainforests, leaving endangered orangutans with fewer ways to explore, connect, and thrive. That’s where canopy bridges come in - simple yet transformative pathways strung high above the ground to reconnect fragmented forest patches, allowing orangutans to swing safely above roads and other dangers. Each bridge is carefully placed to restore vital connections in the forest, ensuring these magnificent creatures can access food, mates, and shelter without risk. You can read more about the impact of these bridges here.
The bridges don’t just benefit orangutans—they’re a lifeline for countless other forest-dwelling species, from other primates to birds and even giant squirrels. By supporting Orangutan SOS, we’re helping to restore these vital connections and ensure that Sumatra’s lush rainforests remain thriving ecosystems for generations to come.
We’ve seen an incredible response to our Black Friday campaign. Thanks to you, we’ve been able to raise £700 and plant over 7000 trees so far, this month alone! But we’re not done yet. To give you one last chance to snag some Tentsile gear and contribute to the amazing conservation organisations we support, we’re extending our Black Friday / Cyber Monday sale for ONE additional day. That means more time to save, more trees planted, and more donations to our partners through 1% For The Planet.  This Giving Tuesday, let’s turn the narrative of overconsumption into one of thoughtful giving. Together, we can ensure that every purchase leaves a lasting, positive impact.
