We often stress at how ‘cool’ Tree Tent camping is for an awesome hangout spot, but did you know that elevating your campsite can help you stay physically cool as well? Thanks to the heat reducing factors provided by increased airflow, and natures canopy over your head, there’s plenty of ways you can stay cool this summer!

The Canopy

Pitching amongst the trees allows you to take advantage of the natural covering and shade provided by the treetop canopy. When picking your spot try to pick a location where tree canopies overlap allowing for as much shade as possible to be covering your camp, this is also a great bonus for added protection from surprise summer showers.

This coverage from the sun also stops your tent from building up heat throughout the day. We’ve all been there when we come back to camp after an adventure ready to relax only to be greeted with a boiling hot tent and a selection of warm ‘refreshing’ drinks, camping in the shade helps to keep your set up cooler, but we’d still recommend a cool box!

Under The Tent

Just as the tree canopy provides natural shade, your pitched tent provides a shaded area underneath the body and rainfly like a giant sun umbrella over your head. This gives you a large space to both relax out of the sun while also storing goods that you want to keep out of the heat. Plus with the rainfly pitched you have a space that is covered no matter the weather, keeping you comfy come rain or shine.

Increased Airflow

Being separated from the hard floor is always going to provide you with an extra level of comfort compared to ground camping, but the extra airflow also provides you with plenty of room for cool air to flow beneath you while giving you plenty of area coverage to vent heat. Our tent’s mesh ventilated pole sleeves keep the rainfly from sealing you in the tent, letting fresh air in and allowing warm air to escape, so the whole tent breathes with you.

Leaving your rainfly off will allow you to pitch a bug proof shelter that still lets a breeze pass through, or if bugs are the least of your worries open your doors to allow air to flow freely through your tent. The placement of our doors allow you to position your tent to catch a breeze from multiple directions throughout the day if needed.

General Tips

While summer camping is undoubtably the most popular time to venture out, it’s worth noting that the sun can be a blessing and a curse if unprepared. Make sure that wherever you’re planning to camp you have access to fresh clean water, or a water source you can make safe to drink if venturing into the back country.

A map of the areas you’re planning to stay in, and the knowledge of how to use it, is an incredibly important piece of kit if your planning on venturing into the back country at any time of year, but especially in summer. A casual walk can take a turn for the worst if unprepared so knowing how to get back on track or at least to a point with water while in mid-day heat can be a lifesaver when needed. If possibly try to avoid activities during the high point of the day, opting to be more active in the mornings and evenings to stay cooler.

Finally, pitching near water that’s safe to swim in can provide a much-needed refreshing plunge for all those in need, and failing that taking and filling an inflatable pool while car camping can be a perfect way to instantly cool off!
